Following the teachings of Dr. Randolph Stone (1890-1981), Polarity Therapy is a natural health care system based upon the universal principles of energy: attraction, repulsion, and neutrality. The interrelation of these principles forms the basis for every aspect of life, including our experience of health, wellness and disease.
With this understanding, Polarity Therapy addresses the interdependence of body, mind, and spirit; the importance of relationships; the value of creating a way of life in harmony with nature.
As part of the larger field of Energy Medicine, Polarity Therapy complements existing systems with an integrated, holistic model. Polarity Therapy is a transformative influence for change in health care and in wellness education.

“ENERGY is the real substance behind the appearance of matter and forms.” Dr. Randolph Stone
A unique drugless Healing developed by Dr. Randolph Stone, DC, DO
Polarity Therapy is not a full body massage unless given by a massage therapist included with Polarity.
The profession of Polarity Therapy is autonomous, self-regulating, and holistic. Its scope of practice includes energetic approaches to somatic contact, verbal facilitation, nutrition, exercise, and health education.
Entry into the profession requires a thorough knowledge of energetic principles. The course of study includes entry-level and advanced education, with certification programs in basic and advanced topics.
As a profession, Polarity Therapy upholds basic values such as service, diversity, spirituality, the sacredness of relationship, community outreach, accessbility, and the Polarity Therapy professional's continual growth and development.
Future-sighted and research-oriented, Polarity Therapy professionals are both participants and leaders in redefining the health care field.
Stone studied osteopathy, chiropractic, naturopathy, naprapathy and neuropathy
and won degrees from all. His State Board Exam was passed in 1914; was granted
an Other Practitioners Licence, which permitted him to perform all methods of
drugless healing without surgery in Chicago;and started teaching at the newly
formed Eclectic School for Doctors.
Hand in hand with his health research, Dr.Stone pursued his spiritual quest.
For him the two were inetricably intertwined.
"As above, so below; as within, so without" he often told his students.
He studied he works of Vivekandanda, Ram Tirtha, Yogananda, Krishnamurti, Swedenborg
Rosicrucianism, Paracelsus and Dr. Manly P. Hall, whose lectures he attended in
Chicago where he held a practice for sixty years. He studied many ancient traditions
of natural healing~ayurvedic, yogic,cabalistic, hermetic and alchemic~
From these wisdoms he came up with, Polarity Therapy.
Is this a religious or spiritual practice?
When Dr Stone was taught "Surat Shabd Yoga" in 1945, he also developed the ability to
see and hear this inner energy for purely spiritual purposes. This assisted him
develop his therapy, it was spin-off, a potent side effect.
He never used his spiritual gifts for medical or material ends, and strictly forbade
any of his students to do so.
"Miracles and psychic healing are not dealt with on this course," he declared.
"it describes a rational therapy"
Polarity Therapy And The Medical field
Since Dr Stne was able to explain how this inner energy operates, at both a human level
and a cosmic level, and hat he could demonstrate- to even his most critical colleges
in the medical profession-how this energy can be balanced by manipulation, nutrition,
counseling and a few simple stretching exercises.
Dr Larry Dossey, Chief of Staff, Medical City Dallas hospital, shares Dr Stone's
revolutionary perspective of energy and health:
"Like a stream that becomes stagnant when it ceases to flow, harmony and health turn
into disease and death when stasis occurs"
Dr Stanley White, professor of psychology, says: "When we are given the secret of how
to go within ourselves, we will find the Word reverberating inside. This Word or Power
sustains this entire universe, seen and unseen"
Dr Julian Johnson, an American surgeon:
"This current is not like a river running in one course. It is more like a radio wave
flowing out in every direction from the grand central broadcasting station. It comes
from the supreme creative centre of the universe of universes. This wave has two aspects,
a centrifugal flow and a centripetal flow. It moves outward from the central dynamo of
all creation, and it flows back toward that dynamo..That which physical science calls
energy, which the Orientals call prana, is only a manifestation of this life stream, stepped
down to meet material conditions. Like electricity in the air, it is omnipresent. It is also
omnipotent. In it lies all energy, either latent or dynamic....it is not heard with the
physical ear. But it can be heard, and everone has the capacity. It only requires the
development of an inner and finer organ of hearing which every person possesses"
Cindy Rawlinson, RPT
President of the Polarity Therapy Association USA.
"One strong memory is watching Dr Stone work on a young woman who had flown across
America to see him. She was very ill and no doctor could diagnose the problem, Stone's
speciality. I can't remember what he did, but the power of love that he transmitted
confirmed my experience that love is the healing power. Tears rolled down my cheeks"
How Long has Polarity Therapy been around, I never heard of it?
Since 1914, Stone practiced and taught his work in Chicago. It took him 50 years
to develop Polarity Therapy; and it will probably be another fifty before it is
widely recognised as an effective therapeutic system. Medical practice has always
been slow to embrace new ideas. In 1945 he read Mysticism, the Spirital Path by
Lekh Raj Puri.
This book explained explicity where all energy comes and how it can be harnessed
for spiritual development. This insight gave him more into disease as a result to
blocks of energy. This brought about his first book, The New Energy Concept of the
Healing Art. By 1957, Dr.Stone had published five works on polarity therapy, plus
a book bout surat shabd yoga entitled The Mystic Bible, and had pioneered the
techniques of craniosacral therapy thirty years before John Upledger's work.
At eight-six years old, Dr Stone was finished teaching. At the age of 91 Dr Stone
died happily near Amritsar. He was still fit in mind and body.
What to expect in a session, what to wear? What do I need? How long?
Loose fitting clothes, natural fibers of cotton is preferred. The session typically
consist of the therapist sitting with client for a little background into the intent/issue
at hand with note taking. The session on a massage table can be as long as needed, usually
45min to an hour.
What makes Polarity Therapy so "unique"?
Dr. Stone's polarity is by no means the sole healing system which balances our inner
energy. Stone was the first to concede this, having constructed his system from
diverse sources.
However, the genius of this work can explain how this inner energy operates, at both
human level an a cosmic level, and can be demonstrated to even the most critical
colleagues in the medical profession~ how this energy can be balanced by manipulation,
nutrition, counselling and few simple stretching exercises~
It balances the electromagnetic currents of energy which flow backwards an forwards
between the positive and negative poles of the human body, which is like a living
magnet. Without polarity we can have no life on this material plane, no energy flow,
no breathing in or out, no feelings of hot and cold, pleasure or pain, love or hate.
For life to flow, there must be poles for it to flow between, just as planet Earth
needs its North Pole and South Pole.
What are the qualifications for Polarity Therapist?
Is there an Association that monitors standards?
The Polarity Therapy Association is a professional organization which represents the
interest of both client and therapist. Therapist within the Association have had minimum two
years professional training and are involved in on-going graduate studies.
Because of the demand of therapist, the association has made distinctions in the titles.
The first level of pracitce requires therapist to complete, Associate Polarity requirements.
This can be complete within a year. There are also listing students of the first level of training
on their list of therapist. One may find info online or contact: The Secretary, Polarity Therapy
